Welcome to Medallion ePortfolio! Desiree Dawson is a student at Florida International University, graduating with a B.A. in International Relations, a minor in Political Science, and a certificate in Latin and Caribbean Studies. She has an extended focus on African and African Diaspora studies, as demonstrated through completed internships, coursework, and volunteer work. After completing her degree, she plans to pursue her master's in African and African Diasporic Studies, continuing her studies and application of global awareness.
Desiree Dawson began her studies at FIU with 60 credits, thanks to her participation in dual enrollment during high school. This allowed her to graduate in three years, a journey she approached with dedication and focus. Outside of her studies, Desiree was actively involved in several campus organizations. She participated in Model United Nations, where she contributed to creating the first African Union at the FIMUN high school conference.
The team engaged in discussions about the economic challenges faced by African nations during wartime, which deepened her understanding of global issues .Desiree also served on the Education and Outreach Board of the Black Student Union, where she worked to support initiatives that promoted education and cultural awareness within the community.
In addition to her academic and extracurricular commitments, Desiree worked as a substitute teacher in Miami-Dade County, where she gained valuable experience in the classroom and contributed to the education of younger students.Through her various experiences, Desiree has learned a lot about leadership, community, and the importance of giving back.
