GL Coursework
Take a look at a couple of the amazing courses I was able to complete.
ANT 3241 Myth-Ritual-Mystics
This anthropologically focused course examines the study of myths, rituals, and customs as they pertain to religion. The class challenged students by encouraging them to question their worldview and initial biases. It draws from a universal perspective, looking at societies and religions from around the world. The course covers a variety of subject matters, including possessions, rituals, and written texts.
AFH 2000 African Civilization
African Civilization was an online course I took over the summer. It focused on the historical facets of African civilizations and the true history of Africa prior to the Atlantic slave trade. The course examined how Africa has shaped and influenced world history, comparing the developments of African civilizations to their portrayal in mainstream narratives.
REL 3308
Studies in World Religion
This course was a summer elective, and because of this, it was shortened into the study of diasporic and Indigenous religions, focusing on the culture, practices, and rituals of some of the world’s oldest religions. The class featured debates and discussions on spirituality and legitimacy, constantly challenging us to find the similarities and differences between these religions. It was the first course I ever took at FIU, and it sparked my interest in African diasporic religions. These religions are unique as they were primarily introduced by African slaves during chattel slavery. They carry distinct syncretism between various African beliefs and European ones. Because of this class, I am now studying African and African Diasporic Studies.
